Structure Of Diamond:

It is made from the atoms of carbon that’s why known as allotrope of carbon. Four carbon atoms are present in its one molecule which is arranged tetrahedral. Its crystal is isometric-hex octahedral in shape. Because of dispersion of light through it, it gives a shiny look. Different diamonds are present on the basis of their structure and properties for example Pokémon diamonds and Herlberg diamonds. Another type of it which is very famous is loose diamond.

Properties Of The Diamond:

Diamond has some of its unique properties because of these properties diamond is considered to be the most precious material. Some of its properties are as follows.

  1. Hardness:
Diamond is the hardest element in the periodic table. Its hardness is due to the arrangement of the carbon atoms, which are tightly packed to give it a hard look. Because of its extremely hard property it is used to cut and grind other hard stones for example gemstone. It is very tough itself so it is hard to cut it in desires shapes. Diamond itself is used to cut other diamonds but this process can be dangerous for both the diamonds.
  2. Electrical Conductivity:
Diamond is non conductor or insulator in nature because of the arrangement of the carbon atoms. There are no free electrons and ions are present in its molecules, that’s why it is non conductor. Some types of diamonds behave like semiconductor but at a very high temperature. The melting point of the diamond is 4000k.
  3. Identification Of The Diamond:
Diamond can be distinguished among the other elements because of its shine and brightness. It is a transparent crystal. Its brightness is due to the property of high refractive index. Its brightness can be increased by making its dimensions in such a way that it can reflect more light.
  4. Colors Of The Diamond:
Most common colors of diamonds are brown and yellow. The color of the diamond is due to impurity present in its crystal for example yellow color of the diamond is due to the impurity of nitrogen. Black diamond is also present but in real it is not black. It gives a look of black color because of the black marks present on it. Transparent and colorless diamonds are actually pure diamonds.

Uses Of Diamond:

Diamond jewelry is very famous and admirable among the people. Different jewels of diamond for example diamond bracelet, earrings and necklaces are very famous among the women. Diamond earrings of different types are present for example diamond stud earrings. Now days it is a trend to wear diamond jewelry on weddings and formal functions such as diamond wedding bands. As it is hard in nature so it is used for cutting and grinding at industrial level. It can be used as semiconductors for various purposes.

Production Of Diamond:

Diamond was first found in India later on different deposits of diamond were found in different regions. About 49% of it was found from Africa. Different deposits have been originated from India, Australia, Canada, Brazil and Russia. Different industries are working for grinding and cutting of the diamond. They can be categorized in industrial grade diamond and gem grade diamond. These both industries are very different from each other in their operating process.

In conclusion, diamond is one of the most expensive, beautiful and demanding stone all around of the world. A lot of international exhibitions for its display are organized all around the world.
